I just want to know why and whether I should be putting some of my controversial comments on here. I really don't want some of those Homeland security people knocking on my door. Well so much for free speech huh!!

Sircher,
From my understanding the folks at the News Progress are not doing this and it is host folks (Guestbook.de)...
I have of course recieved the same thing a few times (more than a few)..sometimes it appears, but most of the times it does not. If they are being checked by someone, I doubt they are checking very often because there are not as many daily posts as there used to be. However this is of course all theory...LOL...

The last message I posted just a couple of minutes ago gave me the message that it would have to be reviewed before it would be posted publicly and then I could not get it to reset so I could write this one so I clicked off the site and sure enough it is not on here. I wonder who is reviewing our posts and why!!! Does this have anything to do with the law passed that the government can now read all that we put on the web, emails, instant messages etc and listen in on our phone calls???

I'm still here John. I've been checking the board pretty regularly but have been a little busy to write. Actually I did write one rather long letter in answer to you and Travis about Obama and the tazering of the kid and my viewpoints on the cops and the justice system but then I accidently ran my cursor across the reset button and lost the whole thing. Ticked me off so much at this laptop of mine I just got off and didn't try to re-write it. But my son and his family is leaving today to go back to his home in Alaska so I will have some time on my hands and I'll be on here even more now. They have been down here in San Diego for almost a year now for his medical treatments. I'm glad he is well enough to go home but he has a little 2 1/2 daughter I'm going to miss like h***. So keep posting everyone so I have something to do.

Travis, I have looked and looked and not found anything. From what I recollect, Hillarys people found out the Muslim past thing..
Honestly I find it hard to trust any politican only because I think the ability to hide things and talk out ones rear end is part of the recommended traits..All of them do it, and I doubt if it ever stops. I also believe a democrat will be the next leader...however I have no idea what they will do. It would seem folks are getting tired of being lied to and they may be under more scruitiny..but hard to tell. I suppose that is the bad part of really having total freedom and the communication systems we have. Essentially we know just about everything that occurs, sometimes years later...Now the years later thing seems to be going away...so we have immediate access to a lot more than we did. I am not sure how good this is for a society because in reality there are a lot of things that folks probably do not want to know.
If you think about it, the deaths in Iraq are extremely low compared to other wars or "conflicts"..yet a kind of kudos is not given in that direction...Also hell raising that occurs seems to be broadcast all over the place, where in the past we either did not find out, or found out too late.

The Prophet Mohammed's favorite mare was "Al-Awra", "The one eyed mare". I have looked everywhere for the horse thing but have not found it. Find me where that translates into Obama and I will of course tell you that you are right. Obama goes to a black theology church, I guess the same one Oprah attends. As far as the Muslim back ground, I believe he went to a Muslim school for four years as a kid in indonesia, however I am not sure that would make him a Muslim. His father named him Hussein, however he has never used that name. I was babtized at the First Church of God in Sullivan..(Pressure from deceased grandmother)..however I do not claim to be of any religion. So again, not sure if any of this means anything. What does it all mean? Proably nothing but politics.
I tend to agree concering the student, I have been in situations where I have seen authorities overeact..(myself included)..Unfortunatly most policies are written in black and white..Meaning, a response is given based on an action, and no more thought is put into it. If a cop tells you to do something, you must simply do it. (Not that I agree with that thought process, however it will keep you alive). The other thing concerning this matter is that several incidents have occurred on that campus with Tazers...heck the incidents are happening all over the country. There are several folks that have actually died from the tazer. I have had the lucky experience of being tazed three times..(During training at a prison)..They do tend to light one up a bit...
I can say, I do not believe the student really said anything, he kept asking a question, and of course was supposed to yield to the floor for others to ask questions because it was not supposed to be a one on one interview..(wrong forum for taking other peoples chances for asking).
As far as the tunnel, I do not believe we are headed there, I believe we are in the middle of it. Again, do I believe the 9 idiots involved in the situation were right? Heck no...but do I understand it..I suppose so. Do I agree with them...no...
FMC,
I am not so sure everything would be different, the fact is, the bombing would have still occurred, and my guess is, regardless of who was president we would have retaliated. Now, would we have sent guys in on foot, I have no idea, if one talks to most vets they will tell you that the thing could have been over with if we fought from 30,000 feet...(Bomb them until they are extinquished)..

Did anyone hear about the college student in florida i belive who got tazered by police officers at a john kerry speaking last week? Hmm that pretty much sums up our freedom of speech..
I am sorry i just firmly belive that there is way too much government and not enuff people who are willing to stand up to this government..I applaud the student who spoke his mind and got his questions out there to be heard..I hope the policemen who stunned him after they already had him contained(9 officers i think) all get fired...and loose there pensions...If nothing is done on this matter that right there will literally tell me right there that we are definately heading towards a deep dark tunnel in american democracy...

I used to vote 'liberal,' but over the years I have found out that seems to be worse because it takes away from the Democrats' votes. I voted for the first time in the 2000 election, and had I (and thousands others ) voted for ol' Al, things might be different today. Not that I'm always a fan of the Democrat candidates...but to me it usually seems slightly better than the other. I definitely lean toward the liberal candidates, but unfortunately they never seem to win.

3. Iran-contra
4. Supported Central American Death Squads
5. Thought Nelson Mandella was a terrorist
5. Invaded Granada
6. He could have helped with stem cell research and was vehemently opposed to it. The Europeans are now using Stem Cell to possibly cure Diabetes and Alzheimer's amongst others. Nancy is not happy about that.
7. Oh, yeah, he was one that turned on his hollywood folks by denounching many as communists.
8. Busted the Traffic Controllers Union.
9. Pardons for FBI lawbreakers
10. Tax Cuts for the rich
11, C.I.A.-sponsored car-bombing in Lebanon (more than eighty civilians killed)

Sircher, I tend to agree on all points. Damn it, this is getting disappointing..LOL...
For many they get more by being on welfare..(simply because they are currently getting nothing.
Getting angry or upset over this is kind of a waste of time. Imagine getting ticked at someone because they do not want to quit their job to make perhaps 10k or better a year less than they already make. (unless of course they are doing it because they like ti)..Makes no sense.
Legalizing drugs seems like it would make a very good tax base. I know plenty of people that would not mind jogging down to the store and picking up a pack of joints. Hell, I would probably join them in the run every once in a while.
If drugs were legal (some)...I personally do not believe cops would care who the druggies were because they would not be doing anything except sitting at home eating doritos..(depending on the drug of course)..As for Sherriff Joe, there is rumor he is going to appear on a reality show. He would not comment to a news crew that asked him wheter this was real or a rumor, but honestly that idiot loves publicity.
Oh to a poster...concerning the Clintons actions..I saw the results of the 9/11 commission. They were advised of a potential threat early on, however there was no real clear evidence..(smoking gun in a hand, so they stood back..However Bush folks recieved a daily briefing titled "Ben Laden intends on attacking the United states). (from Rices testimony)...only a week before it happened. I guess this kind of proves my point...Anyone would have fought back once attacked...Again...two experienced politicians decided not to act..time for "green" to step forward.

If we are going to start messing around with welfare, how about we start with welfare for the rich. Oh, they call it another name but it's the same thing. It's getting money from the government, most often for doing nothing. Maybe we could start off by thinking about farm subsidies? I do believe the welfare could stand some oversight and maybe a time limit for getting it. I believe in a hand up but not a handout. The social stigma of welfare has changed considerably since my husband and I were married at barely eighteen years old. No education beyond high school, no experience etc. and there were plenty of times we darn near went hungry but we would have eat dirt before we would have applied for welfare. Now I don't think we should go back to that way of thinking but maybe we could have some programs (actually they already have some)to help people give up the free money. Maybe the minimum wage could be raised enough so the people on welfare could see the advantage of getting off welfare.
Of couse the above comments does not address the issue of using welfare money to buy drugs or alcahol. But think about it. If they aren't getting money from welfare to support their habit they may be robbing your house for items to pawn or robbing banks or whatever. Then if they are caught and convicted and sent to jail we will still be supporting them.
I go one step further than John. I think most drugs should be legalized. Let them go to the drugstore and pick up their drugs and sign for them. I think it would be helpful in a lot of ways. The cops then would know who the druggies were. They wouldn't be committing so many crimes to get money to buy drugs and therefore we wouldn't have to build so many penitenturies or pay thousands of dollars to keep them while they are there. That is all but those that go to sheriff Joe. Right John?

Interesting theory, however what about alcohol? Sure its legal, but it probably causes more problems that those things that are in Urine tests?
How about requiring documents to how the money was spent. Did they purchase sales goods?
At the track? Buying twinkies? Buying pop?..Think about it, when you open one of the cans one can never tell whats going to come next. Now, out of curiousity...Each time you get your paycheck you have to pass a random Urine test? Partner I have news for you, even if you do not pass the Urine test, they still have to give you a paycheck..Perhaps your last...but never the less, they have no other choice..If it turns out they catch you being naughty...then of course they can fire you..SO in reality I think that you have a job where you must remain clean or lose the job..Not remain clean or lose the paycheck.
Should they have to pass a urine test to get welfare...interesting concept, not sure...but then again, I am not against the use of all drugs..(His and boo all you desire folks)..I personally know a few people that I think should use drugs...;)
What percentage do you think would lose assistance if tested for drugs (+alchol)...(yeah its the same but some like to have it spelled out)...Do you think it would lower it by 50%...60%..lower? Higher..what is your assumption?

Like a lot of folks in this country...I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butt and using drugs.Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Not sure if they forget, kind of think they never find out about what is thwarted, unless of course they hear something from Bush, his crownies or of course leaks. I would also venture to say that it is not all "us" that thwart the attacks, many times it is our allies. (and god knows what we miss even in classified documents)...Some of these folks have been thwarted by regular citizens that happened to be there at the right time and the right place. God forbid we give the citizens kudos...Do I think it is Bush that thwarted the attacks or plans of these idiots..Perhaps but only is a slight way..He of course decided to wage war on terriorists..(which anyone in his positon would have done)...It is the little guy that goes unmentioned in most of these reports that have done their work. These are the folks that deserve Kudos in my mind. They rarely get it. Many times it is the president himself that gets that particular kudos, or of course the head of the given agency that found the information..as far as the finder..they are often worker bees. Just an observation.

Posting again,
I agree with you concerning the Hillary thing..but again for some reason I am attacted to green. I also agree with the Clintons not dealing with business as it should have been. Then again, I beleive they were deep rooted into the system...so experience screwed up. Bush...arghh...he had experience comming out his...orifaces..I am kind of surprised he is a bad liar..Oh, I do not blame him for all of it, but I do blame the experienced folks he has surrounded himself with. My god you would think there would be someone close enough to say,,,"Mr. President, do the party a favor and shut the heck up, let us get the message out" The other thing that surprises me is his oratory skills. He had a shining moment of course, the same time Rudy did...I have a few Ex New York cops, I worked with. They tend to like him but do not understand him. Apparently he took a low level cop and made him the Chief of Police in New York..this was supposedly a "favor" based appointment which made them angry. The person that was in line for the job, supposedly was more qualified than the person Rudy put in charge..again I have no idea if this is true, it is based off what I was advised by the ex detectives. Again, they still like him, but warn that he is indeed a politican...But I suppose I even Obama will end up disappointing..I have a tendency to believe that anyone ends up disappointing..Perhaps I should run and disappoint the heck out of everyone.
The strange thing that I sometimes consider..even though I am not a fan of the current idiot in office is that he may be one of those presidents that historically turns out worth his salt. This is just me being honest with myself. There are so many things that go on, that we have no idea about, and will only find out after the fact. I deal with Homeland security issues all the time, and if people actually were advised of all the things that come up, and are stopped, they might have a bit of faith in the Homeland security folks. I can tell you for a fact at least once a week, somebody is caught in the states doing bad things. I can also state that in other countries these folks are also hunted down and often caught. The public only hears about a very small part of it. Being in my field, I actually understand this, but would not expect everyone to understand. With communication the way it is, we have become a country that believes we have the right to know everything that is going on..as it happens or within a day. Believe me, there are some things worth not knowing, unless of course you are interested in watching panic.
I suppose time will tell us about everything.
I also wonder if the "Oprah" affect is going to do anything for Obama, it has for others in the past. Wouldn't that be interesting.

As far a Rudy, he stood strong for terrorists threats and of course ran New York city. I am not not sure the running of New York city qualifies one to be anything other than a politican. The terrorist thing I understand, but of course he was dealing with a situation occuring there, and no where else. Besides that, his party does not stand a chance anyway...Just an opinion

So, I got an email from someone regarding Obama. I just wanted to get some people's opinions on him. I think he is great. I think he would be good for the country. He tells you exactly what needs to be done. People get ticked off because he says taxes will have to be raised to pay for social security or for education or for whatever the platform is. I find that refreshing. We don't have to read between the lines, or read his lips, to know what is going on. We know taxes will be raised, he's not lying to us, and I think I'm growing more and more fond of the idea that he's a good choice. I really haven't done much research on his past, but I've heard the whole Muslim/Catholic/Christian situation and have come to this conclusion: Thank God people today aren't judging me based on where my parents were born, what religion they were, etc. They judge me, sure. But I hope it's based on ME, not my parents. I hope Americans can see past his past. He's never given one hint that I've heard of or seen (with any reliability) that he has ever for one second been involved in or been sympathetic toward any terrorist activity or organization. Gradschoograd,
I would agree 100 percent concerning the difficulty in condencing thoughts. Unlike in highschool or even some Bachelor programs the need to condense can be difficult. Thinking back to Highschool and some of the Bachelor programs one could get away with "throwing stuff against the wall"...In a graduate program and of course some Bachelor programs each word needs to count. That I always considered the hard part.
One thing I used to do concerning slackers is to essentially do what was assigned to the slacker and keep it as a "just in case"...I would utilize the "just in case" only if needed. (Your own grade can go down based on the lack of it. My major was Business administration and I would of course attempt to motivate the slacker..sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not...regardless I and the rest of the group was covered. I saw this as something one attempts to do in the real world anyway.
I also agree, that teacher was defintly not someone who should have even attempted grad school. I got the feeling from watching this entire process that she was a typical spoiled kid, that of course was just after money. I would think that any grad school candidate should be more concerned about increasing their knowledge base more so than a salary. (The salary comes with the increase in knowledge most of the time anyway).
Another thing occurred while attending one of my fathers classes. He was sent by Emery Riddle College to teach a class of teachers working on earning their masters. I noticed that this class appeared to be just like a highschool class. I am not sure if this was simply because of their work enviornment or what. They had
1. A class clown
2. The avid gum chewer
3. The little click if girls passing notes back and fourth.
4. The serious one.
5. The slacker
6. The guy that always sits in the back and sleeps
7. The flirt.
8. The brown noser
My observations brought a great deal of laughter on the way home. I would name the part they played and my father would give the name..Funny, we were both right on all of them.

It often seems when given a writing assignment in grad school, I was given a one page limit. It is often harder to condense your thoughts down to 500 words, one page, etc., than if you were allowed to write as much as you wanted. I would think most any student who balked at 500 words a week is not really grad school material. One way a teacher can increase his/her salary is to earn graduate hours. This may have been your teachers goal, not to increase her knowledge base.
Another tip - keep everything you write and the articles you used for reference. Many times, you can use this material in another class (I don't mean without revisions) or as a part of another research project. As John said, there is often a slacker in the group, but you will probably be able to pick out that person fairly early. If so, assign him/her something you (the group) think can be accomplished. It eliminates the resentment that can build up and gives everyone in the group some responsibility.

I recollect my mother saying the same thing about it herself, and honesty I believe even my grandmother...
Cathy, I have not done the graduate school thing, however my father was a professor at several graduate schools and I audited a few of his classes. Based on what I observed, the answer to success is simple. Keep your nose to the grindstone. I would further state to not always trust those that you are doing projects with because there are those that actually produce, and those that simply let everyone do the work. Yes, this particular thing should be gone by grad school, but the fact of the matter is that it is not. Do your work, plus some. Do not get ticked at the slackers, if you are indeed placed in a group, you will be more than likely be asked to grade the other group members work. This is a time to be honest, (by this point do not fool yourself; your prof will probably know who the lazy ones are, so tell the truth. To me this is the time to consider yourself a businessperson. Would you give thumbs up to a jerk that did nothing while the rest of your workers toiled. I do not think so. If so you better get your butt back in school and re-learn.
As gradschoolgrad mentioned, if you are asked to comment on something (or not asked)..Make the comment one that is not simply a (that is great, or I agree). You have seen by playing this little posting game, you can see room for improvement on everyoneís thoughts. (Yes even mine).LOL.
The tip that every professor would give you is "Stay ahead of the game"...this might not always be possible, but if you attempt to stay ahead 100% of the time, you will at least be ahead 80% if time. If you only attempted to stay ahead of the game 50% of the time, you would of course only be ahead about 30% of the time (These numbers are made up but you get my drift)...
Interesting thing is that the non-traditional student definition will probably be completely changed in another decade...Seems like more and more mature (nice way of saying older) are going back to school.
In parting, I will tell the story of the 8th grade math teacher that was taking a one on one class with my father. With this program, essentially, you meet with the professor, and he tells you what he expects. My father and I met this girl at McDonalds for the little one on one. He was explaining what he needed her to accomplish, one of these things was a simple 500 wd essay on the topic they were dealing with during that particular week. Her response to the request was, "Five hundred words, thatís a lot, how am I supposed to get that done every week. I can't get it done every weekî. My father stood up and said, "Lets go John" and said to her, "You need to find another professor"...He deemed it as weak. I agree. How can someone in Grad school not be able to write 500 words a week? I do not get it, and never will. This is probably why our school systems are so weak.

Later Gator

How to make it Graduate School:

Never miss class-
Establish a good rapport with your professors - they are there to help you-
I assume you are a "non-traditional" student. That is a nice way of saying you are old! Professors tend to understand the special needs of a non-traditional and will work with you.
I went to grad school with multiple children still at home. I often didn't start my homework until 11:00 p.m. and would set my alarm to go off every hour in case I went to sleep before I was finished.
Prioritize your assignments. I told my professor once that "If it weren't for the last minute, I'd never get everything done." That is very true, but you cannot let EVERYTHING go until the last minute. I turned every assignment in on time, even though it was not always easy.
Find a partner within your program. There were several of us who worked together - proofed written work, studied for tests, and critiqued projects. If you do this, be honest and use positive critcism. During one group project one classmate's comment on everything was "Sounds good!" I felt she was too lazy to formulate a better answer.
My graduate program was four semesters. I found a calendar that covered the whole duration and also got them for my study group. It was a casual reminder that there was and end to the process.
It won't take forever!

FYI, If I remember correctly, my GPA was 3.91. I only made one "B" with "A's" in every other class.

You can do it - it's just one day at a time.

While I agree, the companys could pay the parents a decent salary, the fact remains they do not, and I will toss out an assumption...We as americans in reality simply want the product. Sure we will say, "What a shame" but in the same breath, what do we do..BUY BUY BUY.CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP...We are paying for this tendency by having our kids choking to death from Chinese made toys and our dogs and cats acting like frogs and croaking with the nastyness in the dog food produced by the same country..(Picking on China now, heck they are big)..
Do we want to pay extra to have our computer techs actually have English as a primary language..probably not, if so we would be willing to pay higher prices for computers and of course the support that goes with them. Yes the corporations are greedy..but we are the buyers, and we should look at that as a sign of our own greed. If you do not like the product, how it is made, and by whom it is made..time to Boycott..but to get this nation to stand together it takes an act of war..and then the togetherness only lasts for a small amount of time. I suppose that is a greatness, and a weakness at the same time. Could thing change, I think it could, if we could ever get to the point where these companies actually decided that the kids needed schooling..Would it be good for them..Not in the long run, as you mentioned, people would indeed get smarter, and it would end up costing the companies..My thought on that, right is right, so what, let it cost. Everyone SHOULD have the right to an education..Scary part about that is just how bad could bad be if backed by intellect. We have been somewhat fortunate by dealing with the uneducated as far as bad guys go...Sure Hitler put together a great road, but he killed a lot of people..perhaps if he had more intellect, he would have killed even more. (Not that I believe he should have, but he would have been able to figure out how)...
Dog fighting...Well, I have seen dog fights in a travel or two, as I have seen cock fights..I have to say I have seen many things, but the dog thing seemed to be the most sickening..I do not have a heart for pit bulls, and in my little world it seems that MOST not all folks that talk about these animals seem to point out, how mean they are and can be..(in a bragging sort of way)..I still think it is wrong to set the things upon each other..and as far as the idiot getting charged, he has it comming..He should be put in a cage and be told to fight whatever challanges are there he must do the same thing..or be electricuted...(I do not really believe in that kind of punishment but if we were dealing with this with a twist of eye for an eye...it would be an interesting concept.
Should every kid get a computer..HELL YES, except I think it should happen before school. The fact is, in a short time..(Our lifetime) we shall see our off spring encounter so many things, they need the jump while they can. What could it hurt? My kids have had access for a long time, and yes I monitor it..do they get away with stuff. I have no doubt they can, and if so..well done, you beat dad at his own game. I discovered my son had two myspaces..one that I was aware of, and another one I was not aware of. Hell I did not even tell him...I chuckled, and monitor it..
Travis. Child labor..Simple question..Do you want your 14 year old daughter (if you had one) working in a factory for low hours and low pay...or Working as a hooker in the ilegal sex trade and making big money .No choice, pick one or the other..
Cathy..Not worthy of commenting? Wow..The people that pay them know it? Cathy, I am not sure all of the folks paying them know it is dispicable...again, you have to imagine, you are not in the United States, you are in Indonesia..Again, as I told Travis..you have only two choices..because in many cases, this is how it is in that particular country. The other thought...just where do the plant managers get the money to pay for the goods? They get it from profits, who caused the company to have profits..the buyers...who are the buyers? Ever wear a brand name shoe..Nike...? Go through your things, you will flip when you see made in Indonesa, Made in Thailand, Made in Chine, Made in the Phillipines..all of these places have no problem with child labor..until we complain, then they fix it, and we go away, and they do the same thing all over again...I hope your son fair well, my father was a colnel, brother a Sgt, both in the Army...They both say the Marines are the best trained and the most likely to survive..he picked a good branch..Hopefully his stay will be a short one..if not, hopefully safe.
Travis, I do not mind getting old, I just do not like the pain that seems to come with it...The fire is a few hundred miles away, although we do have inmates working on it..
I feel sorry for sorry for anyone that loses somebody, it is very devistating time for everyone..I suppose these are the only times when I wish I had a bit of an understanding or faith is some sort of religion, it would be comforting..It simply never happened for me. Now , my take on the child labor. Some of your points are very valid, but my bi**h is, that the companies paying those slave wages to those young people, make enormous profits when selling that product. Most, if not all of these big companies, could pay those children enough to really make a difference to their families and still make a good profit. These corporations have become so greedy and they are building their wealth on the backs of poor young children who have little or no choices. Now here is another idea. What if these companies hired the parents of these underage children and paid them a living wage and instead of working the young children went to school. Could possibly, in a generation or two these same children be intelligent enough to start making some changes in their country and raise the economy in their country?
Here is a couple more topics I would like to hear the opinions of you all. One is the dog fighting scandal that has been top of the news lately and the other is about the $100 computer for every child which was a piece on 60 minutes last night.
Well that should be enough to get this board going for a while, unless everone is too busy with golf and boating and all those summertime activities everyone has been busy doing the last couple of months.

Wake up folks or I am going to have to bring something up that will cause blood pressure to boiling points...hmmm...
Funny thing , I keep on getting emails stating, "the guestbook is dead" however those same folks mentioning this are not writing anything down..hmmm, is someone looking for me to work..has my arrogance been missed?
You know, I think child labor is a good thing...especially in third world countries. Why? Put youself in the shoes of a parent of a young Indonesian girl..lets make her..hmmm....14 ...no to be in the parents shoes, you must also consider yourself at the same salary status as an Indonesian in the approximate social status...(So indeed, you are poor..period). Now remember unfortunately folks do not think about birth control in many third world countries, (it cannot be afforded anyway)...so, you have three other kids, they are all under the age of 14 (Yes, this is your eldest daughter)...You know that your family must survive. Now you have essentailly two choices..At the ripe age of 14 she could of course work in a sweat shop making about three bucks a day .(do not laugh, right now you only are bringing home about a buck a day..(after all you are probably selling your fruit and vegetables along with raising your children)..or she could join the ever growing sex trade, and bring home anywhere from 20 to 40 dollars a day...I don't know about you, but personally I would rather have my daughter working in a sweat shop and making Nike tshirts...Who would rather have their daughter in the sex trade? What loaded question?

As for my back, it is still there. I have to say, it is probably the most painful thing I have gone through. I am no longer using a wheel chair and now am using a cane..(good god I feel old). One of the canes has a little container in the handle for liquid substances..to bad I am not into that it would be fun. I am waiting to see the Dr to determine when they are going to cut me open. I honestly will be glad when it is all over, one forgets how much they like to work when they cannot.

Hopefully everyone will check in before long and tell us what they have been up to all summer. I remember someone had a son that was to graduate marine boot camp here in San Diego and I've been wondering if they got here for that and how they like my favorite city.
John-How has the back injury been coming along? That is such a painful injury, Let us know how you are doing.
Travis- You have had some of California and Arizona summer weather lately, except we don"t get so much humidity. Mainly because we also don't get hardly any rain from May to December. But we did have a 100 and 2 99 degree days last week. No heat index on those though since we have low humidity. But I got to tell you that humidity or not when it's 100 it"s da** hot.
I guess Curtis has been busy with his sports thing. I'm not sure sure what is all about(I'm sports illiterate),but I wish him luck.

Curtis and Cathy, glad to hear you made it through the ordeal, I am sorry you had to go through that, not easy stuff there...I hope everyone is holding up well.
Cathy and FMC I remember going through Sullivan a year or so at the Singer Reunion...strange when you can drive through the town and it seems like you know no one...but everyone looks like someone (offspring)..
Cathy me thinks there are several armpits in the country...of course there are folks that probably love the same pit...but to each his or her own..
Florence Arizona was my Armpit...Too many prisons, to many innmates, too many inmate families...to many Corrections officers...do not get me wrong, one feels kind of safe with a gun in about every house and law enforcement folks to back them up...but still just the typical attitudes drove me nuts.
I can relate with the kids and your location...We moved from florence in reality because I did not want them going to a school where the parents were raising hell because the school wanted to buy more books and computers and not new football uniforms...seemed kind of backwards...but to each his own.
Later folks, all I can stand for now..will be back later...

Cathy, it was for this very reason that I left full-time ministry...I couldn't bear my kids growing up in a new town every 2-3 years. Kids need roots -- even in this day -- and they will be better off. We might not have a mansion, but we have a home and family.

But, even now, with Mom and Dad getting older, I miss the small-town life. If either one of them were left alone, I would move back in a heartbeat to care for them or look in on them. Wouldn't think twice...and the kids would understand. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but our values have always been to 'watch out for each other'...

We may not always get along with each other...and we may not always agree; but after faith in God, all we have of any value in this life is FAMILY.

It might be because I don't remember things exactly as they were, but it seemed like there aren't nearly as many trees around as there used to be. Driving through Sullivan, it seemed more open and barren than I recall.

Why is Modesto the armpit? It's not a good place to live? If not, they are you there? I'm always curious why people stay someplace they don't like. Often it's for a job, but usually one can find something just as good in a place they enjoy living. ? Life's too short to be stuck in a place we're not happy with. : )

So now all I got left is to go deaf and blind to make my life completely not worth living. LOL Just kidding. Dr didn't think that was funny either.
So how are you doing with your back problem? I know from my son's experience that it is terrifically painful. He had 4 fractured verabrea and they don't even know how it happened. Unfortunately when they did the surgery they knicked the sheath of his spine so now he has a bad sunburn-like pain that comes around from the back all around his stomach area. But even that is so much better than the pain before the surgery. And the only pain medication that would help him was morphine or oxycontin. None of the lesser pain pills even touched the pain. So I have some Idea of what you have been going through. I hope you have a good Dr. that believes in pain management. Take care kid and let us know how you are doing.

I did my 15 months, and yes, whether you would like to think I am trying to make it sound worse than it is or not, I am scheduled to go back in January. We are told it will be for at least 18 months next time. We are training hard, as we all know that Ft. Lewis has sent more troops than any other base, and we have had more deaths than any other base. They aren't even doing individual services anymore, as there are too many casualties. We now attend funerals of multiple soldiers who gave all for their country. We are all scared, but we fight so that our families and friends don't have to. Out of 8 women scheduled to go last time, I was the only one that didn't get pregnant or claim some sort of depressive disorder, which made me the lone female to leave. (At the time, I was stationed in Germany.) I hope that the women here will understand that we signed the dotted line right along with the men, so that's where we should be. Our country needs us. Burl, I apologize. I just get angry when I hear fellow soldiers criticize our government. The only thing that can come of that is less support for us. Yes, us. Curtis the reason the Iraqis have not been able to stand up a decent military is because it pays more to plant IED's and try to kill Americans. I know for a fact that they do not even get paid regularly. On top of that they are a backwards culture I have watched "trained" Iraqi's shoot themselves in the foot simply because they do not have any understanding of discipline. There are some very good Iraqi units last time we worked with Hilla SWAT and these guys were good, possibly a little too violent. Reality is that this is the way to handle the Iraqi's my first time we were in the Diayala province near Ba'Quba now a hot spot and the people did not fight us much because we went in and stepped on their throats to make them realize that we will kill them if provoked. Hell if I was in charge in Iraq I would pick 2 days a month that were open season and trust me the insurgency would dwindle quickly. The crap that they put out to soldiers going over now about how we are trying to win the "hearts and minds" of the Iraqi's is crap it leads people to believe that they are not going to war but the fact of the matter is that the war is still going strong 4 years after President Bushleaguer said that it was done. Just some food for thought from your favorite former government mule.

JOHN--Hurrah for your Gov. but I got one question. Is there money in that bill to back up the law? There has to be enough people to check the employers that may be hiring illegals. The government, both federal and state have a habit of passing laws, but not allocating money to enforce them.

I'm thinking a loud to myself and wondering why when I went to boot camp, it only lasted 8 weeks? The iraqi's boot camp is five years and running, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? I know we may be a little more advanced, but where is there military. Why can we be trained in 8 weeks and they can't be trained in five years? Hold on, I DO have the answer. W won't allow it! See, if things go well over there without getting Osama, then things aren't going well over there. Until the idiot(W) captures, kills him, it aint going so well over there. However, mind you this is W we are speaking of or I am speaking of, If he wants more money there or he needs more money for some kind of "committee", things aren't going so well. I guess you heard they were putting two new faces on Mt. Rushmore? Yea, W's!I applaud executive privilage. Not only lie to your country but your congress too. Way to go George. Or is it? Which way did they go George? What an absolute IDIOT!!!!!

Gov. of Arizona signed 2779...if employers are caught hiring illegals they will be fined $2500 first time and permanently lose their business license the second time. Is is at least a real action.

Hello
I am not dead, however due to the pain, I cannot help but fantasize a little bit. ;)...
As for pain killers...I have actually not ran into anything that is good enough except for dilad...unfortunately though, it is not something they typically let you out of the hospital with...and me thinks that is is just a tad bit on the addictive side. Morphine...breaks me out in hives...(just learned that)..Vicodine...simply does not have a kick to it...and percesette (sp) seems to at least dull the pain...not that the pain is exciting...:)
I have been in the legal world to long and no longer have the look of one that can snap their fingers and get 420.....Who would have guessed, I look too much like a damn cop...Oh well, maybe it will appear one day...until then perhaps I should just drink...(Not really I do not like booze)
FMC...Burl indeed still has two legs...Trista, not sure if you have called Burl an ass based on his comments or his past....if it is his comments, and it is because you are in the military...keep fighting for his right to spout his opinon, it is good of you...most importantly watch your 6....remember, it is a different time..just because people do not support the idiot running the country, does not mean they do not support the troops following orders...and of course if you are calling him an "ass" because of previous dealings...well, I suppose everyone has an opionion, and I have no doubt that he has been called worse...perhaps even by me at times....But this of course was also probably directed at me from him more than once...
Sullivan Carnivals used to be kind of neat...interesting thing someone mentioned Corndogs...The Sullivan Carvival taught me I was too much of a sissy to ride the Rocko planes after eating one of the infamous corndogs....I do not eat those things anymore...
Heres a story I might have told...
I worked the Carnival one hot summer...I was paid 15% of the take of one of those silly games, where I stood for hours shouting "Three for a quarter, three for a quarter win a dog..three rings for a quarter...The object was of course to toss one of the rings over blocks of wood, thus winning a dog that seemed like it was about 4 ft tall...Well, I worked, and worked, getting my little money...a day before the carnival came to an end...I did a naughty thing...A lady (girl) named ...Lauri Kersin..(This may be spelled wrong, I think she graduated in 80) came to the both...I recollect her being a very pretty young lady..(I think I was very young as well)...Anyway...she came up to give it a try...and...well, even though the rings would hardly fit over the blocks...Unless you did it with you fingers just right..She won a big pink dog...(Yes, I let her win)...I yelled, "We have a winner!"...The carnie that owned the little stand (I think he had a few games there) was a rather fat guy with a "wifebeater" t-shirt on....ran over to the game and with a very mean nature, told me to get the hell away from his game...Laurie got the dog, I got the boot...After checking out how much I actually made a day, it was probably about two dollars for more than an 8 hour day...Yes, my reputation was ruined with the Carnie folk...but to Laurie, I probably went down a hero..;).....I believe Curtis might rememeber that, I remember getting teased for letting her win..;)

The wounded one.....

Though it's been years since I've seen Burl, I'm pretty sure he's still a human (unless he's turned into a 4-legged creature since...which I doubt).
